Aqua Allegoria Lys Soleia by Guerlain

A sunshine-scented summer bouquet.

Last year we named Gorilla Perfume’s Dirty as our scent for summer. This year we have chosen an equally addictive and delicious seasonal delight – Lys Soleia from Guerlain’s Aqua Allegoria collection.

Zesty citrus notes pop as this fragrance first graces the skin. Lemon contributes a hint of sharpness and zing, and is tempered by herbaceous bergamot and palm leaf. The resulting impression is one of happy freshness with a hint of delicate woodiness and a touch of cut grass. Hovering at the edge of the opening are wonderfully floral notes of ylang ylang and lily – a delightful summer bouquet that’s beautifully gentle and sophisticated. The ylang ylang also lifts the fragrance with its sweetness and hint of fresh fruitiness.

The scent reaches its conclusion with notes of gourmand vanilla, elegant tuberose and sensual musk. Intertwining with the floral heart, the fragrance’s impression evokes images of sun-kissed skin and the feeling of lazy summer days. In fact, at times this perfume reminds me of an expensive sun cream. The long-lasting impression of Lys Soleia is relatively sweet, with a dainty touch of floral. However, at times I detect something tropical about this scent – there are subtle nuances of exotic fruit and the base has something of a honeyed coconut edge.

Not only does Lys Soleia have fantastic longevity (I’ve sometimes still smelt it on the skin the morning after I’ve worn it), it’s also fantastic value for a Guerlain fragrance – just over £30 for 75ml. I was surprised when I first smelt it as I was expecting a more typical Guerlain fragrance, one which can border on the overpowering. However, Lys Soleia is far lighter and more wearable than its cousins, an observation which was confirmed when I read a comment about the Aqua Allegoria collection being ‘Guerlain for beginners’. It certainly is, and I think that any of the Aqua Allegoria fragrances are perfect if you’re looking for a lighter and less overwhelming fragrance from the esteemed perfume house.

Whilst the perfume inside should always be the ultimate determining factor in choosing a fragrance, you cannot help but notice the bottles of the Aqua Allegoria collection. A golden wrap of honeycomb adorns the neck of the bottle and a stylishly embossed bumble bee graces the cap.

I am so impressed with this fragrance. It’s truly beautiful and a must-have for this summer and beyond.

  1. Dearest P&P
I’m so glad that you like Lys Soleia, it is a very splendid summer scent… with something of fine suncream about it to The Dandy’s nose.
I feel there are quite a few of Aquas that you might like, Pamplelune is a favourite here, a photorealisic grapefruit that melllows into vanilla citrus bliss.
    Yours ever
