No More Animal Testing: The New EU Legislation Explained

It’s been a long time coming, but the European Union has finally announced that the import and sale of animal tested cosmetics will be banned from the 11th March 2013. But what exactly does this mean?

  • The ban will affect all beauty products and cosmetics, including makeup and toothpaste.
  • However products currently on the shelves, which have been deemed safe to use through animal testing, shall remain there.
  • This is because there would be nothing to gain in using a cruelty-free alternative to test them again.
  • Any new cosmetics introduced into the EU market will be tested in a cruelty-free way.

The ban follows 20 years of campaigning from animal rights activists, and we think that it’s brilliant that animal testing will no longer be required and that we can buy our cosmetics in the knowledge that no cruelty has been inflicted to produce them.
